|
The goal of the St. Luke medical mission is to provide regular care for those with treatable diseases. These can include things like hypertension, diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, malnutrition, scabies, and so many others. It consists of an ambulance and mobile clinic which takes place 6 days a week in different areas of Port au Prince. These areas, like Cite Soleil, Sans Fil, Croix de Brossales, and Wharf Jeremy, are some of the poorest neighborhoods we visit. There is also a great push to provide emergency medicine, surgeries, and awareness programs to prevent things like diabetes, hypertension, and the transmission of HIV at childbirth. Many different patients are seen each week at the mobile clinics, and we’re able to provide 100 patients with treatment for Tuberculosis, 50 patients with Antiretroviral treatment for AIDS, 50 patients with medication for hypertension, and 50 patients with diabetes medication.
